Why I Started This
I am an animist and a student of spiritual ecology, pursuing a career in death work. My teachers are not only human; they are the rivers reshaping their banks, the fungi stitching forests together, and the ancestors who remind me that matter remembers.
After a decade in design and entrepreneurship, I entered a year shaped by loss. I watched seven lives end and felt my own change shape beside them. When everything familiar fell away, I moved from New York to Massachusetts and began again close to the ground.
This space grew from that soil. I stumbled through this metamorphosis and barely made it out the other side. But now I’m determined to confront my resistance toward change (a thinly veiled fear of death) and help others do the same.
No one prepares us for death, loss, and change—it’s almost like a hidden secret we all share but rarely name. As we draw death and rebirth back into our communities, that will change.
What began as a way to notice what was still alive in my life has become a practice of staying in conversation with change. Here, decay is not an ending to fear but the beginning of new life.
About Me
I’m Charlotte Rogg, a writer, death doula, and spiritual ecologist based in Massachusetts. I spend my days writing, foraging, studying fungi and myth, and gathering small proofs that life renews itself.
I created Metamorphosis Works! to document my psychopomp studies as I moved out of the corporate world and into the otherworldly plane of death and rebirth.
This is an experiment in what happens when we stop turning away from death and start learning from it. Through the language of nature and change, I’ve found that facing what ends opens a rare kind of freedom.
This work is how I share that discovery—helping others walk toward what they fear and find aliveness waiting on the other side.
